Candice Carmalt

Mezzo Soprano

She was born in Geneva and sang in children’s choirs from a young age.
She studied voice with Shauna Beesley in Geneva before starting at the Lausanne conservatory in 2005, where she studied first with Sirvart Kazandjian, then with Hiroko Kawamichi. She completed her “Bachelor of Music” there in 2009.
Deciding to specialize in contemporary music she then studied at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano with Luisa Castellani, under whose guidance she completed her “Master of Music Pedagogy” in 2011 and her “Master of Music Performance” in 2013.
She regularly sings in Switzerland, France and Italy with early and contemporary music ensembles. She has sung with conductors such as H. Klopfenstein, D. Innocenzi, A. Marguier, Ph. Béran, M-I Pernoud, J. Duxbury, M. Pascucci, F. Bossaglia, A. Close, M. Mazza,  J. Haskell, L. Gaggero, S. Bazzi, A. Tamayo, M. Wendeberg, J. Blanc, S. Sgrò; and has performed with ensembles such as: ‘900 e presente (Lugano), La Dolce Maniera (Strasbourg), Studiumensemble  (Lugano), Vox Altera (Lugano), Ensemble Contrechamps (Geneva), Coro Magini (Turin), Genevox (Geneva), and with the opera choruses in Avenches and Lausanne.
She presents an extensive repertoire that concentrates on early and contemporary music, and has presented roles such as Zerlina (Mozart, Don Giovanni), Iphis (Haendel, Jephtha), Papagena (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte), Cassandra (Gay, Le Sconfitte), and in 2011 she performed the world premiere of Deuxième Femme (Beesley, Le Procès de Michel Servet).
Candice Carmalt has recorded for RSI 2, RSR Espace 2 and Stradivarius.
When not performing, she conducts “Le Cicale del Vedeggio” (children ages 4-10) and the Lugano University choir: “USI Coro”.
Her participation in The Blossomed Voice vocal ensemble as mezzo soprano began in 2014.
